Yes, it's another cheapo. By that I mean nobody knows its parentage and
you won't be able to find any tests of this or any other lenses with
this brand name. Could be a quality brand second sourced. Could be a
label under which a quality brand dumped its seconds. Could be made by a
manufacturer which makes top notch lenses, but to the second rate
cost/quality specs of a wholesale customer. Look at Cosina, they've made
everything from top quality to junk lenses. The point is that you will
not be able to find out this stuff, so you will be on your own to
determine quality and value based on your own experience with it.
Whether it's worth a minimum bid of $40 plus shipping depends a lot on
what you want it for and how you value your time. If you find it
entertaining to take pictures and find out later whether they are any
good or not, it may be a good value. If you are going to be taking some
'once in a lifetime' pictures of some special occasion or trip without
testing first, it's a bad value because of high risk. If you would enjoy
spending time and film/processing costs doing tests to confirm its
quality and get great satisfaction from getting a great deal and knowing
something others don't if it is good, then it could be a good value.
Remember Albert's recent post about the guy with the expensive camera
with the fancy looking lens that turned out to have plastic lens elements?
If you just want a good 135/2.8 without a lot of fuss or risk, there are
far better opportunities.
Buying lenses with a "Z" on them is not such a bad plan. Steer clear of
early 50/1.8 & 1.4s and the Cosina made 35-70/3.5-4.8 (not to be
confused with the excellent 35-70/3.5-4.5!), you are pretty safe and
many are world class. On the other hand, there are a lot of excellent
lenses for the OM from Tokina, Tamron, Vivitar, Kiron, Phoenix/Samyang
that are either cheaper or fill needs not met by any Zuikos or both.
