How do I get the wind side off? I know the ASA knob stays on the top.
You need a tool to fit in the small holes on top of the wind lever.
You can use a small rubber stopper to take off the top trim plate
(unless it's already all scratched up, in which case it doesn't really
matter) which is just glued on. After removing the top piece, then the
wind lever (and plastic trim piece and small washer) will come off.
Now, unscrew the aluminum disc with two holes in it too. Finally, you
will also need to unscrew the small nut around the hot shoe connection.
I have used a sturdy tweezers for both of these tasks, but a real tool
is infinitely better. If you've gotten the two small phillips screws
out from under the rewind knob, the top should now come off, causing
the back latch spring to fly out with surprising velocity, which will
then bury itself into the carpet with a surprising ability to
camouflage itself. Not that this has ever happened to me, of course...
Hopefully, you can determine what's causing the latch to stick now. If
the leather has been reglued, the latch may have been glued shut. If
you can break the glue loose, a bit of working it should cause it to
loosen up.
Mark.
