With the 4/3" sensor the 4/3 is not an aspect ratio. Most digicam
sensors have a 4/3 aspect ratio. It is related to an arcane
measurement of the glass tube diameter of old television camera
sensors. Here is a good site that explains a bit about sensor sizes:
http://www.dpreview.com/news/0210/02100402sensorsizes.asp
When you consider that both Canon and Nikon brought out cameras based
on the APS size sensor which is only a small percentage larger than the
sensor Olympus has said should be the new standard, it does seem kind
of perverse. Sort of like someone arriving very late at a formal party
in a Halloween costume and declaring it a masquerade ball.
4/3" is 18.000 x 22.500mm and is 3 x 4.
2 Canons and 2 Nikons use 15.6 x 23.7 mm and is 2 x 3 like 35mm film.
