It's not ESP that is a problem. It works with any lens.
Only Program mode cares that radial movement of the stop-down lever have
a specific relationship to f-stops. It requires the lens to be at its
minimum f-stop, then moves the stop-down lever a specific amount the
reach the desired f-stop. All other modes depend on you to set the
aperture and simply push the stop-down lever as far as it will go.
Looking at a couple of non Zuiko lenses, it seemed by eye that one was
clearly off and a couple of others looked like they would probably would
work. Since I mostly use it in ESP/Auto, just desided not to worry
about it. If I want Program mode for snapshots, I use the 35-70/3.5-4.5,
a perfect casual snapshot lens, and all is well.
As you say, a slide film test will give a clear answer for any
particular lens(es).

Is there any way to reasonably predict what non-Zuikos will work with
ESP (seeing as at the moment I only have a Zuiko 50), or is it a
try-it-and-see approach? My usual everyday lens is my Tamron SP
35-80/2.8-3.8, which claims to synch with a camera's auto capabilities
when you set the aperture ring to "AE" (f/32).
Then again, this gives me a reason to go fire off some film, like I
need one. yay!
