Oh, I forgot the 1.4X-A. It is too short for the 3420 to grasp the front
of the lens itself. It might work on the extended lens hood.

The 180/2.8 plus 2X-A combination is just short of 7" long and the
tripopd mount to lens mount is 1", so it should just fit the 3420
minimum tripod head to lens support length of 7.8" The regular 7
element aftermarket 2x extenders are a bit shorter than the 2X-A, but
still would probably be long enough, The 4 element versions would be
too short, but you wouldn't use those on this lens anyway, would you.
