Actually, I'm probably going to wait a couple of months
before "putting in my papers." We have a trial coming up soon
that I don't want to miss and that I think will be a good note to
end on. To make a very long story short, it involves a couple,
now divorced, who together founded a company manufacturing a hair
growth product and cosmetics. She got control of the company in
the divorce and now pays him a cool $1,000,000 per year, while he
lives in what looks like an oceanfront castle in Cabo San Lucas,
Mexico.
He claims she paid a former Mexican police chief to have him
kidnapped and killed, although he managed to escape and wandered
in the desert for two days with his hands tied behind his back
before -- surprise -- ending up at the home of a friend. She
claims he hired a different former Mexican police chief (there are
apparently lots of corrupt former police chiefs in Mexico) to have
her and her girlfriend (yes, girlfriend) dragged nude out of the
swimming pool at her even more palatial condo in Cancun and
arrested and charged with drug possession. There are tapes of her
apparently attempting to hire a hit man in Paris.
There is more, much, MUCH more. Both sets of lawyers are
bombastic, flamboyant and take no prisoners. It goes to trial in
May. Poor people fight with sticks, knives, or maybe even guns.
Only the rich can fight with mean lawyers. The trial is expected
to take two to three weeks, and they're going to be paying me $55
per hour to listen to something I might actually pay them to
hear. Then I'll retire and put all the OMs to good use!
