Thanks very much for all the feedback.
As for the taking of these, there is some planning involved as you gotta
know the appx days of the year this happens. Way back in '87 or so when I
first learned of this event thru Galen Rowell's book "Mountain Light" there
were very few people who knew and none who would tell. My photo buddy and I
were in the habit of doing a 3 day weekend in Yosemite as often as we could.
We made educated guesses on when Horsetail would light up and one year/month
we got lucky. That's when I made this image:

which has been reasonably successful.
Since that time, the planning has been easy since we know the when. The
luck has been the harder part. I've been there at the right time probably 8
times since I made the image above and never got anything as good until the
last time I went, in 2000 when these images in question were made:

Yeah, it's taken me 2 years to begin to do anything with these images. If I
only had more time...
Oh, and this time, in 2000, it seems there are more folks who know about
this event. There must have been 30-50 other photographers in 2 or 3
different viewpoints taking photographs in 2000. There were even a few
people who had set up folding chairs and watched the show while sipping on
some red wine!
I think I agree with everyone else that Try3 is the best of the bunch. But
I'm still going to do more cogitating on how to present the images. Just
because I use 3 in a tryptich, doesn't mean I can't do em separately too. I
think either the center or left one in try3 would make a really nice
vertical Cibachrome at say 16x24! :>)
BTW, these types of photos are the reason I'll probably never totally
abandon 35mm for large or even medium format. The cost and weight of the
lenses I'd need would be prohibitive.
