Not exactly. I dated a woman who was an Art History major (on Daddy's money) then decided to throw that away and do Elementary Ed. (Just to slum with the little people for a year, I'm sure.) That was education for its own sake and everyone knew it. What amazed me was the other girl who said she was going to improve her standard of living by reading auras. Maybe she'd do okay with that in Davis, California but never in upstate New York.
