That's an old saying, talking about not knowing what you've bought till
it shows up on your doorstep.
Case in point- I just received an OM-G and Can0n speedlight flash. This
was an as-is auction, but the camera was described as working well when
it was last used 2 years ago. It was packed very well, so I don't think
there could have been any damage during shipping.
The condition as received- No batteries, (I added some) and both the
shutter button, and the wind lever would not move. Ok, so I tried the
shutter trip lever on the bottom of the camera. It didn't move either.
Then I looked at the winder socket were not lined up front to back. I
nudged the winder gears a bit, and they moved. This freed up the wind
lever, which moved, but never finished winding, and never unlocked the
shutter button. Looking in the back, the second shutter screen was
across the opening. When winding, the first screen starts across, then
the second screen starts retracting (no gap, so no exposure), and when
the first screen gets all the way across, they both snap back to where
they were.
The second problem is that the mirror is flapping loose. It is attached
at the hinge, does not stay up or down, it just flaps back and forth
depending on whether the camera is pointing up or down.
Since this is an "as is with no guarantee that they are working"
auction, my options are limited, so my main question here is what could
have happened to it in the two years since it was last used? What would
cause these sorts of problems?
Thanks, Steve Goss, Dallas Tx usa
P.s. The flash charges and fires, but the bezel which explains the three
positions of the mode switch is missing...
