Speaking of batteries, just which countries still allow the old mercury
batteries to be sold? Does anyone know?
I don't *know*, but they seem to be banned pretty much everywhere in the
Western Hemisphere (though there are grandfathering provisions for existing
stock already within a country's borders). Canada grandfathered existing
stock. It's all pretty much academic, anyways: the last manufacturer of
these batteries that I was aware of was Varta Germany, and they stopped
manufacturing at the end of 1999, in accordance with EU environmental
directives.
