Most of his pictures look pretty straight to me. I don't see graduated
neutral density filters used with transparency materials to be as much
a manipulation as burning and dodging. He certainly stated that he
thought digital scanning and printing was a wonderful improvement on
traditional methods because it allowed the preservation of contrast and
color even in greater enlargements. And he did like Velvia.
