Welcome Sy.
My OM-2 (not the -2N) shutter release moves about 2 mm until it is flush
with the top of the conical collar. At that point, there is a slight
increase in resistance to be overcome (but no sound that I can discern),
then it fires. That is normal (I've had it since it was new in 1979.) Does
that match what you are describing?

Subject: [OM] Re: olympus OM2 shutter release quirks
Hello everyone-Just bought an OM2 and wonder if the shutter release is
working properly. You press down on it and it has what feels like a two
stage release. You depress the shutter release gently and it feels like
there's some loose play in it and you hear a click. You then continue to
depress the shutter release and it fires. Exposure is proper in both manual
and auto. Any clues? Thanks. Sy
