The store where I bought a surveyor tripod had a 'camera adapter' that connects
to the 5/8 female threads on the bottom and 1/4 20 male on top. Not real handy,
so I took it to a machine shop and had the 1/4 20 changed to a 3/8 so that a
tripod head can be used. Works well.
