F280 needs extra contacts on the hotshoe, which OM3 does not have, nor
OM4 (except for the one we saw the other day with upgraded OM4T
electronics *and* hot shoe). That seems to me to be a physical reason!
Didn't stop me trying to bid on that OM3 though (I was out-sniped).
Hard to resist at that price!
