For anyone who is still interested, here is another set of data points on
scanning times with the Nikon 4000ED between Nikonscan & Vuescan.
These timings were run on an a dual 1G PIII machine with 1G of RAM. In each
test the scanner was set to 4000dpi on a crop region resulting in an image
about 3605x5429 pixels with a bitdepth of 14 bits. This resulted in about 112M
uncompressed TIFF files.
(This set of tests were run under XP)
Nikonscan (3.1.2) run via a Photoshop import
1. No Ice, samples 1x: 39 sec
2. Ice fine, samples 4x: 4min 32 sec
Nikonscan (3.1.2) run as standalone
3. No Ice, samples 1: 36 sec
4. Ice fine, samples 4x: 3min 35 sec (almost 1 min faster)
Vuescan (7.6.2)

6. Ice, samples 4x: 4min 57 sec (scan 3:34, rest for saving)
