Albert:
I use both B+W and Heliopan. Both fit Zuikos well and both are touted as
using Schott glass (produced by Schneider optics?). The only thread
compatibililty or alignment problems I have had occurs when stacking them
for storage. I don't use filters much anymore for color correction (exc.
sometimes an 80B for early morning/late afternoon/tungsten shots and a
"warming" filter for people shots on cloudy days), I usually select a more
suitable film. I DO use filters for Black & White. I plan to buy a real
infra-red filter soon
When buying lenses, I've ended up with filters from Tiffen and Hoya too.
They seem to be fine. All of the lines have coated and non-coated models.
I would expect that what you are seeing in flare resistance is the
difference in coatings and probably not a difference inherent in the glass.
Try backing the B+W filter conterclockwise on your 50 until it "clicks" into
a starting thread. Do any of your other filters have trouble threading
onto your 50?
