Yes and no. I never could get a Kodak cannister to open that way when I was
doing a lot of film processing. Their cannisters are mechanically crimped at
the factory, and are tough to open. Others, I remember, used snap together
cannisters, just like the reloadable ones, and they snap open easily.
Sometimes, too easily.
