Hi Ed,
I bought one of these a while ago, but found it unacceptably poor -
scans way too dark and horrible noise in the shadows. Thinking it must
just be a duff unit I exchanged it for another, but the performance was
still the same, so I moved up a rung on the price ladder and got myself
an Acer ScanWit, about which I have only good things to say. I believe
there is at least one PrimeFilm owner on the list who is happy with it,
but I'd recommend spending the extra on the ScanWit (I think it's about
USD300 for you guys, I paid GBP300 for mine).
There's a few discussion on photo.net which might be of interest:

I was looking at Best Buy's web site and they have the Pacific Image
PrimeFilm Film Scanner Model 1800u (USB only) scanner for an ultimate
price of $99.95, after an instant and a mail-in rebate. I don't know
much about these scanners, so I'm wondering if anyone has used them and
if they are worth the cost. I'm not in a position to afford a
professional film scanner, if that helps you in making a recommendation.
Thanks for your input.
