We got to Cloudcroft very briefly while traveling around (only way to get to
Carlsbad from Alamogordo is through Cloudcroft). What an interesting little
town! High, too. (9,000 ft. above sea level). Fortunately, no-one required
we do wind sprints while there. ;-)
The day we went to White Sands, it was sunny, reasonably warm (about +18°
Celsius, around +23° on the dunes themselves), and not a breath of wind. The
next day, we were informed by a local that we were really lucky to have no
wind, and when we went outside and looked for ourselves, Holloman AFB was
completely obscured by dust as an 80 km/h wind was kicking up the dunes and
blowing them northeastwards. Bet that plays Hell with the jet engines.
