John Wheeler mentioned the Centrepoint tower and that's a recommendation
I'd certainly second. Fabulous views and from the top I took my
favourite of all my photos. The Blue Mountains are also pretty stunning
- I suggest following the cliff-top path from Katoomba, which provides
excellent views of the Three Sisters from close-up and far away. The
views from near the Katoomba Cascades are particularly fine. Takes
about two hours to get to Katoomba by train from Central.
Other things I suggest: getting the ferry to Manly (every half hour from
Circular Quay). Manly beach is great for a spot of people-watching and
the ferry run itself is great. Observatory Hill is a very pleasant spot
not far from Circular Quay which provides a less well-known view of
the Bridge. Macquarie Point is a fine spot from which to photograph the
Opera House and Bridge, especially at night. In fact I can't think of
many things more wonderful than Sydney at night, and I think late
twilight is the best possible time to photograph the city.
Something that I have not done but have heard great things about is the
walk from Manly to Spit Point, which can take a good few hours at a
strolling pace.
You might be interested in the following pages of mine, which have some
photos from Sydney and the Blue Mountains. All taken with Olympus kit,
of course, OM-1 + 50/1.8 for all the 1998 photos, OM-1n + Tokina 28/2.8,
Zuiko 50/1.8 and Tokina 70-210/4.5-5.6 for the 2001 shots.

Dear Zs (particularly Oz Zs),
We will be visiting Sydney for a week in January, does anyone have any
recommendations for OM fodder fairly accessible to the city area ? We will be
staying at McMahon's Pt, near the ferry jetty and will have to rely on public
transport.
