I have had my ebay password appear in a junk e-mail subject header once.
Some junk mail ad from a server address in DENMARK(!). I wrote MS who said
(in effect) "not our fault". I wrote ebay who said (also in effect) "[dodge]
... we are constantly seeking ways to improve the [blah blah blah] .. we
suggest changing password FREQUENTLY (my emphasis)... "etc. So take note, in
addition to not using any other login other than "ebay.com" - ebay do not
use a secure encrypted sign-in webpage for login - so your password is
subject to being picked up.
Cheers,
Lee

Subject: [OM] WARNING -- e*ay scam message - see below...
Date: Wed, 23 Oct 2002 22:32:51 -0700
I know that there are many among us who are active on the 'bay... and today
I got this email... I think this is a scam to harvest e*ay login and
*password* information...
I forwarded this message to e*ay support; I'm not sure exactly who to send
it to so I sent it to their fraud division. They are mostly setup to deal
with fraudulent auctions, but this is a bogus message IMO and it looks like
a scam to me.
Caution to all who might have received the same message. I don't like the
originating email address, and it just doesn't look like a 'real' e*ay
contact message to me.
I know we have some internet wizards on this list, can any of you backtrack
this and confirm the 'whois' and other info...? I'm posting the headers and
all, if that helps. I sent it to e*ay the same way.
