Na, you can't use no internal meter 'cz there is a
piece of glass where the film is to be exposed right
behind the shutter. The reflectance off this glass is
not in spec for OM2/4 metering. This glass translates
the image to the polaroid film which is right behind
it. With the OM1, I'm not sure. I don't think so but I
can tell you why at the moment.

The reason I never use the meter when I use the pol
back, is because I use flash studio lights and the
only thing that works is a flash meter with this
setup. Scrictly speaking you "can" use the metering in
the OM4(OM2) on auto with studio but you are
basically flying blind like you do with any flash
unless you have shot under very similar if not almost
exact conditions as before and can dial in the
settings a priori. But forget trying to figure out
just what the effect of lighting in different
positions will be like. Without modelling lights or a
polaroid back you would have get the film developred
immediately to see just what was captured on film.(No
digital does not come to the rescue unless you can put
the image on a 17 monitor. Those dinky ersatz 35mm
instant lcd pics on the back of a digi camera do not
have the fidelity to really see what the final image
will be like. Using a spare polariod camera is
better.)

Now, with flood lites it is a different story.
Camera's metering may be used to get the overall
exposure in the ballpark. And with floods the light
they emit and the shadows and contrast in f-stops
across the scene can be directly viewed by you.

Come to think of it maybe I will break down a buy some
floods) because I'm getting tired of renting the big
iron and getting a different rig each time that
requires getting use to the equipment. (This is a
major pain-in-the-a*s*.!)

Using a gaggle of T32s is okay if you have a
dedicated studio where the important stuff to lighting
does not change and you have calibrated from trial and
error different locations for key and fill lights. I
share my "studio" with my wife, son and dog and our
projects and stuff.....so when I go "studio" it has to
be with overwhelming control of light, like with a min
of 1500 watts. On the other hand, if I was a better
photog I would not need such a heavy handed approach.
