I'm very new to this list although I have been using an OM1 since
about 1975. I replaced my old Spotmatic with it after that camera
fell overboard off Gibson's landing. I retreived the camera but salt
is an amazing thing. Although I loved the Spotmatics I have never
looked back on my choice of the OM 1. I have had 3 I think over the
years (2 were 'borrowed' permanently along with a larger number of
lenses one night from my flat when I was away) My original has never
given any problems despite having shot many hundreds of rolls of film
and in some quite unkind environments around this planet. Thats a bit
of history.
Now with regard to astrophotography... One of the better cameras for
this is Miranda. Remember them?? The company went bankrupt in about
1975. The camera was very good however and it possesses a number of
qualities that are very useful when a stable unit is needed. Its
mirror locks up. Its prism detaches and can be replaced with a
vertical view finder and its meter is quite sensitive (although
getting one that works is more difficult these days). They are also
quite cheap. T mounts for them are readily available.
For those interested I also have a Pen F recently acquired. So am on
a lens hunt for it as well.
