I saw someone selling a newish M7 for $1,800 today on the LUG. So the
prices are starting to fall, if only a little bit.

The Bessa R2 is a fabulous camera, well worth the $550. It's finder is
equal to the Leica's, if the build quality is a couple of notches below.

IMO, The Rollei's a joke. Why the heck would anyone want to pay $1000 for
the same camera with a different name? To use the new 80mm or 40mm lenses?
Perhaps. But it's a stretch, IMO. I guess it didn't cost Rollei too much
to have Cosina OEM them a camera. Certainly far less than it would have
cost them to engineer it themselves. So they get a niche, retro camera
that fits into the always quirky Rollei product line for a minimal price.
And Cosina does the R&D for them.

Le*ca M7 would be sweet, but to experience the freedom
of a rangefinder at a rational price, (and at the risk of re-starting a
flame) consider the new Voightlander, and it's screw-mount lenses... even
the Le*ca-group is conceding they're good.
I've been playing with a Bessa-L (like the old Le*ca 1f, but with a TTL
meter)and I love it. It probably won't ever fully replace my OMs, but it's
a wonderful complement to them. If you haven't seen Stephen Gandy's
CameraQuest site, it's sure worth a look:

Yes, I know it's the same basic chassis as the much didained OM 2000, but
in this context, it really works.
Note also that a re-badged version of this Cosina product has just been
announced by Rolleiflex.... in case you have a burning desire to spend a
lot more money for the same thing.
