Adam -- Career choices are not forever... you can go for it, and if it works
out well that's great, if not you can start again in a different track. This
sounds like a good opportunity if you think you want a career using
photography in your work. You've posted some pictures for the list, and I
think your eye is good. It sounds like there is editorial work mentioned
right from the start, so maybe you'll be proving yourself initially on the
cars/houses stuff.
I wouldn't balk at the 'houses and cars' until you've been in the position
and seen what can be done with them. You can turn 'houses and cars' into
"architectural images" and "custom and classical automobile portraits" and
make money on the side. I think Robert Gries does pretty well with his
'houses' pictures... and Mike Veglia makes some pretty good 'cars' pictures
that pay off as well.
There is some good potential here, the best thing is that you will be
getting paid something while establishing a reputation and body of work that
can take you further along. Family and friends will understand and
appreciate that you're following your desires.
