I have a strange question.
I recently bought a lens... Apparently the seller was a heavy smoker. Not to
offend the smokers on the list, but this lens really stinks. It smells like
it was in a smokey car or room for years, however the glass is very clear
luckily (it was protected by a UV filter). I can smell it even entering the
room. Anybody knows what to do about this? Take it appart and rince in
lukewarm water? Deodorant? Alka Selzer or alikes?
Anybody who can help me?
Iwert.
Yuck. I would send it for CLA. I would guess that the rubber
focusing ring has absorbed the tars in the smoke that create the
stink. You might try clean the rubber carefully using a swab. I use
a product on rubber sandals called Febreeze from the laundry section
of the super market which is designed for removing odors from
fabrics. It works very well on the rubber. It might work. Other
than that you might put it in a closed container with an open box of
baking soda for a while. It is effective with absorbing odors in
refrigerators.
