hogwash!! They made it to repell insects for which it is very effective.
The fact that it is non toxic should appeal to any reasonable person
environmentalist or right-winger. FYI  DEET isn't toxic to insects
either. They just don't like to land on it. DDT might kill 'em but would
make a lousy repellant. Given a choice I'd smear myself and my kids with
the new stuff but I'm sure DEET will still be on the shelf for you.
