This is great advice for the first level of amateur, i.e. owner
of only one body. I think the second level of amateur would add
a second body loaded with Portra 160. This would give you a way
to shoot indoor scenes with the Portra 400, but still give you a
way to shoot the formal scenes which demand the slower film to
achieve better grain for enlargements. You wouldn't be switching
back and forth between the two bodies, as you'd only switch when
you moved to better lit areas (like outside). As Ms. Fang wrote
many years ago, using fast film outdoors in Zuikos often results
in washed-out prints. At least it does for me.
