Tamron, Sigma, Vivitar, Voightlander..........
What about those optical designs already done for APS SLRs and just
lying around?
As for size... The space taken up by "mechanism" is needed for
batteries and electronics. Though an OM is larger than an XA, most
readers would agree it's easier to handle, simply because the extra
space makes it easier to position the controls "well." If a smaller
format has any advantage, it's smaller _lenses_, not smaller bodies.
Even OM size would be a major reduction from the size of the current
Digital SLRs, which are much larger than the minimum size (and weight!)
for comfortable use by human hands. With intelligent ergonomic design,
there should be room for considerable size and weight reduction.
Smaller, lighter components means smaller motors, smaller batteries....
If this new system is well-designed, it won't need support from any
other company to be successful. And you _can't_ draw comparisons with
the Pen F. The F never vanished -- it was reborn as the OM, which is
only _very_ slightly larger than the F.
Agreed. Whoever makes the first "from the ground up" digital SLR design,
if it's really successful and draws strong support from independent lens
and accessory manufacturers, could actually create a true standard,
cross maker, AF digital mount design. When will Nik*n announce their
first camera to take OD standard* lenses?
It's all a big IF, of course. Oly will really have to get everything
correct right from the start.
