Does anyone know what the "angle of red-eye" is for human eyes? In other
words, how much distance do you need between the lens and the flash before
you won't get red-eye any more. As far as I can tell, this depends on the
distance between the camera and the eye as well, so it's an angle rather
than an absolute distance, right?
And it's a variable angle as well. It's affected by the direction the
person is looking in addition to how dilated the pupil(s) are. The worst
situation for red-eye I've experienced is late in the evening at wedding
receptions. This is after the lights have been turned down as far as
possible for intimate dancing and after people have been imbibing alcoholic
beverages for a while. Both the extremely dim lighting and the alcohol can
dilate people's pupils until there is near zero iris left visible.
