An interesting thought. One of the things that starts hogging up available
space on still camera memory cards are the OS's on the computers you're
downloading to with certain card readers/OS's. I have even heard of certain
versions of Window trying to write back thumbnails automatically onto the
camera memory card that contains the original large files.

The rule to avoid this is to do nothing with your memory cards when
interfaced to a computer except download your files. Never delete files,
format, or do anything else with your memory card with the computer it is
connected to. On Macs, always drag the card's drive icon to the trash to
"dismount" it when you're done downloading. It is not a bad idea to format
your cards often *with your camera* as well.

This could also be the reason Olympus is so reluctant to allow users from
updating their own camera firmware despite other camera makers now offering
this capability (and yes, As I understand it, to update firmware on an E-10
you just use a file via the memory card or USB port with some secret
access/loading steps--not sure 'cause they ain't tellin'). That would be one
mean and nasty virus trick...
