I was thinking of adding one of these to my newly acquired OM4.
Will this be a good replacement for my T20 that I currently use
on my OM1, OM2SP and OM20 or will I have to start changing hot shoes etc?
thanks again for all the advice your all giving to help out a beginner to
put together
my system.

Eric,
The F280 does not have a "Normal Auto" mode for the OM-1. Even if you
eventually get an OM-4T or OM-3ti, the Super FP mode has quite limited
utility unless you start using high speed films. The Guide Number plummets
just switching to Super FP mode, regardless of shutter speed, and declines
very rapidly as shutter speed increases.
I recommend the T-32 instead. It is more versatile, slightly more powerful
and can be mounted in a BG-2 if you want to make a potato masher out of it
(the F280 can be mounted in a BG-2, but the grip won't power it like a T-32
or T-20). It will be a little bigger and heavier on the OM-1 hot shoe
compared to the T-20 and you must take care not to bang it into anything
lest you crack the shoe. If you want to explore some of the non-OEM flash
heads, look into the Metz 32 MZ and 40 MZ units. If you ever want to mount
one of them to a handle, Metz makes a G16 (and a G15) that's similar to the
Olympus BG-2.
I've been using even more powerful flash handles and flash brackets with
bounce cards and soft boxes a lot more than shoe mounted flashes lately,
and have become accustomed to using them versus shoe mounted units. Makes
the compact, lighter weight OM's bulkier and heavier, but still not as
bulky or heavy as other makes of bodies with the same flash handles/brackets.
