While this lens uses rollers (like so many other Zuiko zooms) that can wear out
and slip like this, the parts page shows it may be one of the rare designs with
an adjustment for that (zoom creep). With only the parts diagram to go by, I
can't tell for sure until I have one in my hands, but if any of you 50-250
owners are willing to volunteer your lens for us to try....
