It's Phosphoric Acid, which is OK if dilute.
A standard grade-school demonstration was to put a copper penny in a glass of
coke. After a few days, the penny had completely dissolved. Nobody wanted to
taste the copper coke.

Exactly. Teeth will dissolve, just like the penny, but very slowly. The
sugar in all soft drinks is far larger a danger to living teeth.
As a teenager, I worked in a McDonalds. We used coke straight from the foutain
to clean the stainless steel fixtures.
