Why would 35mm Kodachrome processing halt if *exactly* the same K-14
process is used for K25, K64 and K200, the latter two of which are still in
production? There appears to be confusion that each film speed requires a
different process. This cropped up when discontinuation of K25 was
announced and keeps resurfacing. It doesn't (if it's used at or very close
to rated speed). Just like E-6 and C-41 processes, K-14 process is the
same regardless of rated film speed.
Don't be fretting over something that won't occur for a good number of
years. You'll gray early and get ulcers.
Transparency films are a thin sliver of all major manufacturer's film
production. Last numbers I saw were in the 5% vicinity. That's all E-6,
K-14 and things like Scala 200X combined. K64 does move off the pegs
around here. Reason I don't buy it locally is the price. 36 exposure
rolls are significantly lower priced from B&H in NYC than 24 exposure rolls
found locally, even in the discount department stores (Target, Meijer,
etc.). I quit buying film in quantity from local sources some time
ago. Only time I buy from a local source is for single rolls of something
that wouldn't be used but once or twice a year.
