Today's cameras are disposable? Any more so than in the past?
Get real, cameras have always obsoleted before they wear out.
Again, look at the camera developments between 1945 and 1975. A
twenty-year old camera design in 1975 was completely worthless
in comparison to a twenty-year old design in 2002.

Ken,
Don't be so hasty! Just used a circa 1955 35mm RF at a wedding to provide B&W coverage for it (was also Key Grip, Gaffer and both of the Best Boys). Used Tri-X with a B+W 470 Cyan filter. What else more appropriate?? Verichrome Pan is gone or would have used that! Was wishing I had a "bare bulb" flash head with bowl reflector instead of the Xenon tube on top of the potato masher.

Nearly all its design concepts, including knob winder, date to the mid-1930's. The only thing mid-1950's is a PC socket with X-Sync at 1/50th second for electronic flash (syncs M/F at 1/25th and slower). After about four frames I was "in the groove" and could wind on to the next frame almost as fast as a single-stroke lever wind. It wasn't as difficult to use as anticipated. For capturing the decisive moment it's actually easier than an automagical SLR. I *know* the bouquet catch was nailed dead on. I could see it happen real-time in the viewfinder while hearing the sound of the shutter traveling.

Love that sweet sound of its mechanical shutter; almost magical at the X-Sync speed. Goes with the heft of the brass, and the tactile feel of deeply knurled and precision machined steel knobs, all heavily chromed, accented by the subtle odor of the leather body covering. Like the En*rgizer Bunny, it keeps going and going and going, and goes one better by not requiring any batteries to power it.
