Has anyone else out there tried Agfa Scala - a mono slide emulsion ratable
from ISO 200 - 1600 (my favourite film, BTW ...) - an expensive bitch to
process, being the very rare E4 (I think) process, but it is just amazing
for mono work, and with better archival qualities than any print (not
counting exotic processes involving Platinum blah blah) ...
Also . . . AFIK it's not E4 process. It is a process proprietary to Agfa
and various labs around the world are "licensed" by Agfa for it. There are
three in the U.S. I use the one in Florida with pre-paid mailers which are
not as expensive. However, if you push or pull, it does cost about the
same amount more as it would with any lab for push/pull processing of B&W
negative films.
There are stories of individuals doing their own reversal processing of
Scala 200X. I don't know what process they are using, how it compares to
Agfa's process, or what the archival qualities are. I do know Agfa's
process adds a hardened layer to the transparencies to help protect the
emulsion on them.
