Has anyone used the 2X-A teleconverter in conjunction with the 85-250mm f/5
zoom? I have the zoom, but am curious if the 2X-A will fit it without
complications and with decent result, as it is not listed as one of the
recommended lenses. I have decided that I will soon buy a 135mm f/2.8, so I
am also wondering how well that combination will work. Lastly, is it worth
buying the 2X-A instead of a Vivitar MC or similar teleconverter? Any help
would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Kyle,
I have both a 2X-A and Viv macro focusing 2x. I also have an 85-250/5 but
have never tried a doubler with that lens. The lens does mount on the 2X-A
just fine, and it seemed to focus OK on a light bulb! (It's a dark combo ...)
Nor have I tried it with my 135/2.8. I got very frustrated using both
doublers with a 300/4.5. I could never get good results with that lens
(though others have reported doing so).
The combination that has fared better for me is the 2X-A and 100/2.8. I
thought the result was superb, although they are better if you don't stop
down too much. F5.6 is a great stop with that combination.
I ran some tests with the doublers recently. I must post the results. In
general I slightly prefer the Olympus doubler, as the result is quite
neutral, whereas the Viv macro doubler is warmer. But the Viv macro
doubler offers the possibility of turning your 50/1.4 into a 100/2.8 macro
lens.
