Another answer, but one which your instructor might not like, is to get a Koni-
Omega Rapid M with interchangeable back, wide-angle lens, standard lens
(58 - 60mm) and either a 135 or a 180mm. And a Weston Master V
exposure meter with invercone..
Why muck about with 35mm when you can shoot 120 format and get real
detail?
And there are some 120 range-finders, but I think that even 2nd hand you'd
run over the $US 1000 limit.
