Sony Memory Stick Duo to go on sale
After well over two years (first announced in April 2000) the first tiny
Memory Stick Duo is about to go on sale in Japan. The first model, MSA-M16A
will have a capacity of just 16 MB but is about half the size (and
considerably thinner) than a normal Memory Stick, this makes the Duo about
the same size as an SD/MMC card. Also available will be a Memory Stick Duo
adapter to allow the Duo to be used in a normal Memory Stick slot. The Duo
is aimed primarily at the Mobile Phone and PDA market. The first application
for the Duo will be the new Sony Ericsson P800 mobile phone (with built in
digital camera)."
How about that...a phone with built in digital camera!!!! What next?
Sounds a bit silly to me.

I had the same reaction. I think miniaturization has reached a point
where it is too small to use. The cell phone package is about as
small as you can go and still be able to handily use it. We will
probably see more weird combinations as more and more is stuffed into
a single manipulatable package to see what will sell. There are
equally dumb things like the Sony Clie with full qwerty keyboard with
buttons that look too small to be pushed by a pencil eraser.
I wonder what other nonfunctioning combinations will be made? How
about a mobile phone with a built in microscope? Or a print head
built into the end of a pocketable digital camera - just stroke it
across a piece of plain paper. The silliness is endless. Or how
about little motors built into a lens to focus it saving you the work
of twisting the focus collar. Nah, that is just too silly.
