With the help of this posting:
http://zuiko.sls.bc.ca/swright/archives/1999/msg13188.html I felt confident
enough to try and fix my first lens. Just like you said it were just oily
rings and after some gentle cleaning and 'the pencil trick'(TM) the aperture
seems snappy for at least a while. The toughest part was to get the tiny
spring back in place without damaging it.

Could be the problem is nothing more than oily rings in the back mount.
That is relatively easy to fix compared to taking the diaphragm blades out.
