Mike,
On my Winder 1 there is an unmarked detent between the Single and DC 4-6v
position. This appears to be another off position. There is a second
detent opposite the "v" in DC 4-6v. The winder is active at this switch
position.

Bill Stanke

Subject: [OM] help with winder 1
I've taken my winder 1 apart with the hope of changing it into both a
winder and a power supply for the modeling lights on macro flashes. This
seems to be easily doable by soldering a short jumper between the
battery switch position and the remote 4-6v power switch position. The
actual switch that isolates the battery pack when the remote power is
connected seems to be built into the socket and is not accessible. But
first I would like to be sure what each switch position does. So I was
hoping to get someone with a functioning winder 1 and remote power
supply to check something for me. On the bottom of the handle the switch
has an OFF position and a SINGLE position and also is marked with a 4-6v
position. But there are two click stops in the 4-6v position. This is
what I would like to have clarified. It appears from the inside of the
switch that one of these positions is another unmarked OFF position
between 4-6v and SINGLE. Could someone confirm this? Thanks
Mike
