Hi folks,
About a week ago I bought an ailing OM 10 for about USD20. Vendor said
the mirror was locked up and it didn't go.
I thought it would be a piece of cake to fix this; but was a trifle upset to
find
on arrival that there was extensive corrosion on the exterior, and everything
that worked (not all functions did, but most), were very slow and erratic.
Like
driving a car with a fuel blockage.
About 4 + hours later and with some vital advice from this group, I now have
wandered around in its internals with a brush and shovel, followed along with
a damp cloth and some furniture polish, marvelling at this little mechanical /
electronic jewel. The result ?
I "think" I have restored all functions to close to OK. So I'm pretty pleased
with the results of all efforts. Still have to do some lubrication, foam
replacement, removal of fungus from the view-finder, and probably re-painting
of the black, but (fingers crossed) I hope to have a useful backup camera at
the end of it all. And the Manual Adapter seems to work OK too.
Even if it doesn't work out as hoped for it has been an enjoyable exercise.
The mechanicals of the little thing are just amazing to watch in action.
Brian
