Hi everybody,
I've been wondering about a post to the group that was made about 2; maybe
3 weeks ago.
In it, it was reported that Mr Joe Beljan (hope I have his name right) had
written about the excellent Olympus MD covers that he makes, that he
would not post them outside the USA because of the extra paper-work
involved.
And I wondered just what extra paper-work he must be faced with, to take
such a drastic step?
These MD covers, which he is reported as selling on eBay too, are tiny in
relation to postal letters. In relation to the permissible thickness of a
standard airmail letter (10mm), they come nowhere close - maybe 2 - 3 mm?
So they can safely be posted as a letter.
What are the steps to take in making a deal and posting the product if it is
so small?
1) Agree on a price.
Same within the USA as outside the USA.
2) Make and receive payment which takes into account the postage. This
can be by credit card or by an intermediary such as PayPal. Or cash if
needed.
Same within the USA as outside the USA.
3) Wrap the MD cover in a tiny press-close plastic pocket. Make up a receipt
and attach it to the plastic pocket if desired. For further protection, maybe
wrap a blank sheet of paper around the lot.
Same within the USA as outside the USA.
4) Insert pocket and receipt into a stamped, addressed envelope, seal the
envelope, and post.
Same within the USA as outside the USA.
Because it is in a letter envelope and not in a packet or parcel, no green
customs form should be needed.
I doubt that these MD covers, being a substitute for a discontinued Japanese
line, would be covered by any USA regulations prohibiting the export of
strategic items.
At the moment, I don't need one of these MD covers; but one never knows
what the future will bring.
Have I got this right, or are there other aspects I don't understand? Frankly,
I'm puzzled by the need for the veto.
Brian
