When too much diddling is done with a photograph -- hours, days even -- in
pursuit of some artistic vision, then I believe it crosses the line from
the realm of photography and approaches what would have to be categorized
as art. But, at this juncture, the endeavor is in a no-man's-land between
the two disciplines, being neither purely photography nor wholly art.
Since it is a combination of the two, those who practice extensive pixel
manipulation may well have invented a new visual genre. Perhaps we should
call it phartography. Thus, the product of this process would be called a
phartograph, or, in short, a pharto.
Couldn?t help myself. :-)
