Dear OMers,
I'd like to thank Joel, Mickey, Sam, John, and John for posting some
experiences with photographing fireworks displays. I'll be ready for
July 4th.
I smiled when I saw "fora" in John Lind's post. I was corrected
by a second grader while I was doing a classroom program on insects and
used the word "antennae." Didn't I know that it was "antennas"?, she
asked. I winced at a city council meeting when a communication company
wanted a permit to put up a couple "antennas" in town.
Aquaria. Stadia. Antennae. Bacteria. Femora, tibiae. Alumnuses??
Man, Latin
dies hard.
Here's one to ponder: penes. Male mayflies have them, but before
you lads all get jealous, remember that these males die within minutes
of using their penes for the first--and final--time. Bummer (pl.
Bummi? Bummae? Bummora?).
Thanks again, guys.
Dean
