I made my first 11x17 print(epson 1280) of the
Pittsburgh skyline shot with the 35-70/3.6 on Provia
100F. On a tripod mounted OM-4, the aperture was f/8 and
was in the neighborhood of 60mm.
I must say I am truly impressed with its performance. In
fact by the time the slide is scanned , photoshopped and
printed I could find no noticeable difference between
this and those taken with the 35-80/2.8
>From my experience what gives the 35-80 the edge is that
its performance is high over a wider range of apertures
and it has the extra stop. But with the 35-70 at f/8 and
the 35-80 at most apertures, there is no noticeable
difference in image quality, printed or projected.
Could be a slightly different story under a high powered
loupe though.
I was considering selling off the 3.6 but now its
staying. It goes with me where I am afraid to take
its bigger brother.
