Hi Ian:
There are two major routes to Powerseller status. One is to sell a
limited number of high value items, but to keep it up over time. That's
me, four years running. Another is to sell large quantities of low
value items with an occasional large value item to prop up the total
sales amount, thus qualifying for the minimum US$2,000 per month
bronze-level seller status.
I've watched technikcamera over the years and they represent the latter.
It would appear to me that the first guy to be hired to do eBay auctions
(Jeff) got hired to clean out the store of its junk. Later it was a
Mike who handled the auctions. Concurrently, they went from
guaranteeing their auctions to selling "as-is." They are still cleaning
out the store and the current crop of goods hardly seems worth the labor
cost to auction! But it looks like a classic case of the boss setting
restrictive policies on shipping and guarantee and the grunt geting to
move the junk the boss points to. I suppose that so long as the grunt
sells enough to cover his/her low salary, the boss thinks he/she is in
the black on the deal. Especially if the grunt has to clerk in the
store at the same time. You see this over and over again as brick and
mortar stores try their hand at eBay and often give up once they
discover its one of the most labor intensive (i.e., costly) selling
venues.
I suspect the as-is language was in effect when you bought your T-45?
Count yourself lucky if it works. Peruse their feedback and you will
find other OM List subscribers who have had varying levels of
satisfaction, including myself: "much better than expected from a brick
and mortar store."
BTW, I'm appreciate of the supporting statments from other OM List
subscribers. Shameless plug: I also have up for auction a few lenses
which have been talked about here in recent weeks:
Tamron 80-200mm f/2.8
Tokina 80-200mm f/2.8
Tokina 100-300mm f/4
Olympus OM 85-250mm f/5
As always with a 90 day return guarantee, at cost shipping within 24
hours 7 days a week, professionally packaged and often on big ticket
items: bench and/or film tested.
