I've had a very busy few days, with a few more coming up, before a
bit of a break arrives next week, and I haven't had too much time
to play with the new-to-me Tamron 300/2.8 that arrived last
Friday. It looks like it's never, or hardly ever, been used and
came complete with a full set of rear filters, the 1.4X and 2X
teleconverters, a gen-u-wine B+W 112mm UV filter on the front, the
hood, lens cap and case. I've been lucky on eBay so far, and I'm
keeping my fingers crossed.
Anyway, in a couple of weeks I'll try to post some test results,
in case anybody's interested. I know the lens itself is a fine
performer, and I'm more than a little intrigued by the idea of a
300/2.8, 420/4, and a 600/5.6 all in one package, so I'm going to
compare the Tamron teleconverters with the 1.4X-A and 2X-A Zuiko
teleconverters on this lens. Don't expect anything as complete
and professional as Gary's tests, but I will try my best to do it
right and be objective.
I'll be testing using Provia 100F in an OM4-Ti with Motor Drive 2
on a Cullmann Titan tripod with a Bogen 405 head, shooting with
both hands on the camera. I know using the self timer to lock up
the mirror and pre-fire the diaphragm may give better results, but
I don't consider that a realistic, real-world test for what I
expect will be the normal use of this setup.
I'm open to suggestions. In fact, I haven't even decided on a
subject for the test shots yet, but I'm looking around.
