It is early and the brain hasn't started working right just yet. Just after posting my question, the synapses started firing and I thought, "what about cleaning the contacts." Thought out load. Grabbed a pencil and ever so gently used the erasure to clean the contacts on both the flash and the cameras. Everything now works properly on both cameras. Repair doesn't get any cheaper than that.
